A local man was arrested in Long Island, New York over the weekend after he threatened to kill a volunteer staffer of GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin; verbally threatening the Trump supporter and nearly running-over the worker outside the Congressman’s office.
According to Fox News, the 75-year old suspect identified as Martin Astrof was apprehended after he was driving in “an aggressive manner” towards Donato Panico; a volunteer organizer working on behalf of Rep. Zeldin.
“In the US, political scores are settled at the ballot box, not by trying to kill your political opponents. Donato Panico is a great American, supporter of @realDonaldTrump & one of my campaign vols. He shouldn’t have been targeted like this today for his passion & involvement,” tweeted Zeldin.
“Authorities said that after making threats, Astrof backed his car up in an ‘aggressive manner,’ nearly striking the worker before driving home. He has been charged with making a terroristic threat and second-degree reckless endangerment,” writes Fox.
The arrest comes just days before Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was verbally threatened by protesters outside a local restaurant, where demonstrators chanted “We know where you live” as McConnell left the eatery.
