The news I watch and listen to stated that when the Guard was deployed. It was clear they would be in a support capacity and not actually do any patrolling and/or enforcing. So this is old news really.
If they needed people to do menial tasks, they could have just driven their pickup down to the local Home Depot and found some people interested in a days work.
Based on past deployments, each troop costs roughly $100,000/year… For cleaning horse stalls…
Your own article states that it was unknown who first responded to the scene of the truck load of illegals.
Nothing in the article indicates the NG Troops were of any assistance in this incident at all.
exactly, we all get that the national guard is supporting the Border Patrol.
But why send a trained soldier out to muck out stalls?
Allan
When America still had mounted calvary who do you think took care of the horses, including mucking stalls?
Horses are still an integral part of our border security, and with horses comes muck, and the need to dispense with said muck. Cleaning some stalls builds character.

I can think of lot cheaper ways to “build character”… $100,000/year per troop…

Why not?
Just one more part of his or her training.
Why do trained soldiers dig latrenes?
Sometimes you just got to buck up and handle the ■■■■■

Like just about every other case like this, it was a tip that alerted authorities to the truck…
You can hire Mexicans to muck stalls @ 100 a day (and they would do a better job)
Allan
This is from two years ago but is a pretty good indicator of the indirect costs…
Does that now mean that the border wall looks like a good value?
Does that now mean that the border wall looks like a good value?
No, it just demonstrates the idiocy of using the National Guard for this role…
Sounds like a money problem that congress could solve.
Throwing money at the problem is now a conservative plan?
I say we privatize the border patrol. Auction off contracts to patrol the border to the lowest bidder.
exactly, we all get that the national guard is supporting the Border Patrol.

That was the example the author of that piece liked to use. If he had provided information like what percentage of the assist troops were doing this job, it might be less interesting. Bad reporting or intentional lack of information?

Do you dispute Captain Mora’s statement in the article that they are not patrolling or even armed?

Well, actually checking cameras or working helicopters would be patrolling, but no armed patrolling. But the point that posters and the author loved was about cleaning out stables.
How many troops are involved in this?
Looking like it’s paying off.
During the month of May, CBP saw a slight 1.9 percent increase overall when compared to April, but a 160 percent increase compared to May 2017 [1].
The number of Family Units increased by 435 percent and the number of unaccompanied children (UAC) increased by 329 percent compared to May 2017.

Ayup. Nothing to do with the NG at all.
Remember a few months back when Trump ordered National Guard units to the border… Politico is running a story checking up on them…
Trump Ordered Troops to the Border, But They’re Doing Busywork
I don’t know about you, but I feel much safer knowing that border patrol horse stalls are being emptied of manure by our troops…
Dems love open borders…
