It did…only recently and by non-sustainable means have we exceeded US oil production from 1970-71.
Also do not discount that our 1940s-1960s global dominance was due partly to the fact the rest of the world’s industrialized economies were in a shambles from World War II and we were slow to adapt when they began to offer serious competition.
