A friend of mine had the idea (not sure if it was originally his) to have a program where people pay for “bricks” that have your name or any phrase imprinted on it.
We have the means though if congress will get off of their asses and pass a simple law to build, maintain, and patrol it at no cost to the taxpayers at all.
Just tax the remittances and use the proceeds from whatever tariffs we have on goods produced in Mexico, CA, and SA.
In fact we could pay for all of that along with the necessary expansion of immigration courts to deal with the illegals already here without digging into the Taxpayers’s pockets for a dime of it.
If it were being built out of Bricks that would be a neat idea. I’ve seen similar projects on college campuses, hospitals, and churches where they have done that.
Obviously countries that are more socialist than ours “work”…so the cries of fear from the right that we are turning into Venezuela are ridiculous and unfounded.
The taxes on those remittances would have an economic cost in their home countries, not here.
The economic costs of illegal immigration far exceed whatever damage could be done by collecting tariffs on goods imported from those states unless they were absolutely insanely high.
If they were high enough to drive down imports from those countries, that would then create more job opportunities in the US as well along with of course the steady upward increase in wages and benefits that would come from cutting off to the greatest extent the inflow of illegal labor that of course depresses wages and benefits.
Right- because as we’ve seen these past few weeks, the US is immune to the effects rippling through the global economy due to Trump wanting to set off trade wars as a negotiating tactic…
Yeah, what do you think the turnaround time on that would be? Takes about ten minutes now. Three days? Five? A week?
This is of course ignoring the fact that things like PayPal and Venmo exist, or money transfers to off the shelf debit cards or any of a dozen other ways to shift money.
