All of the self-describe socialists in office are democratic socialists and only support the implementation of socialism via the democratic process. In addition, democratic socialism by its very nature isn’t authoritarian, its democratic.

Items 2 and 3 would require constitutional amendments and therefore are very unlikely to happen.

I love the term Democratic Socialism. It tells you right there what it is

Vote for the people who are going to take your stuff and give it to others without your consent.

I can’t tell if this post is aiming for irony or is just ignorant. There’s nothing in Democratic Socialism that involves taking your stuff.

“Just socialism” is incredibly vague… Have you read the Wikipedia article on socialism? It give a good overview and is well cited. Socialism - Wikipedia

Socialism is Socialism. Call it Democratic Socialism or whatever you want. In the end it will fail because eventually the incentive to be more, to create better, to reach higher, disappear. The only people who would really benefit from it are the Political Class.

I really try to stay away from Wikipedia as much as possible. Too much conflicting information and has become too slanted. I understand your concern, but the thing with Wikipedia is that its pretty easy to determine which articles are well researched and which aren’t.

That’s why I mentioned its well cited… its got a lot of citations at the bottom so you can see the sources.

This is why I think you should read that article. Really the only incentive that goes away is the one to be super rich. Yea, socialism sucks if you want to be the person at the top of your company running everything because its worker-centric… but the idea is that in exchange a worker gets to keep more of the fruits of their labor (vs the owner profiting off of it) and they get a greater say in how the business is run. And with democratic socialism you can create a system where the political class isn’t benefiting from it.

Perhaps, but that’s not the fault of socialism, that’s the fault of our political system. If we could put in office only politicians who truly wanted to serve the people and not their own self interests it wouldn’t be a problem.

My son in law grew up in one of your socialist countries in Europe.
He left because there is no way to get ahead in a country that keeps everyone barely above poverty.
He will tell you that it makes people lazy when no matter how hard they work they will never make more than the lazy guy they are working next to.

I’m a supporter of instant runoff voting so that third parties have a better chance at getting elected.

Democratic socialist generally oppose the idea of revolution vs doing it via democracy.
