The only constitutionally-valid reason for bail is to ensure that the defendant appears in court.

While technically true… this country is use to having bail used as a way to keep allegedly violent/non violent people behind bars.

And that’s wrong.

If someone is so dangerous that they need to be locked up, then they should be remanded to custody. Being able to afford bail should not factor in.
