I’ve been making this point for years around here (adjusting for market value each time). People would rather have 15 fake dollars every hour.
The government trying to dictate a “living” wage for burger flippers is the same government that destroyed its Gold and Silver currency.
A 1960 silver quarter is 5.625 grams of silver and 0.625 grams of copper.
In terms of silver, 1 gram is worth $0.56 at bid price on the market today.
5.625 * 4 * 0.56 = $12.60
Interestingly enough, the minimum wage was 4 silver quarters every hour in 1960.
It stinks like Stockholm Syndrome in here.
Oh no worries, lumber prices are already killing those.
It’s a money problem.
In 1964 (the year before they stopped making silver quarters), the minimum wage was $1.25 per hour.
A 1964 silver quarter weighs in at 6.25 grams and is 90% silver and 10% copper.
5 silver quarters comes out to 28.125 grams of silver and 3.125 grams of copper.
Leaving out the 3 grams in copper, the current market value that I’m looking at, for those same 5 quarters, is $23.90 in silver.
What’s a copper-nickel …

Ignoring the copper (sorry tweakers), the market value of silver on 2/2/2020 was $0.87 per gram.
28.125gr * $0.87 = $24.46
What’s a modern copper-nickel alloy quarter worth these days? 25 cents?

Not that it matters, but (for trivia)
“died suddenly” was a long-time euphemism for “committed suicide.”
Anthony Bourdain died suddenly.
The lead singer of the Irish group The Cranberries died suddenly
Etc…
I now return this thread to its regular business

Well I finally did it! I’ve worked too hard not to give myself some pleasures in this life. When you see something you want you’ve got to just go out and get it!
Cast all fears and worries away and just do it it! Make that purchase! After so many years of hard work I was finally able to afford it. I am so blessed and it just shows that hard work does pay off! So I sat here drinking my $8 cup of coffee while admiring this guy’s nifty little sports car.
