In this very thread we have conservatives stating voters have a responsibility to know what/who they are voting for, and lib/leftist in this thread stating
The reality we live in and have to accept is that those of us who post here are the outliers. The vast majority of the electorate no matter how they vote take a cursory interest in politics which might spike just before a general election.
I agree we are the outliers, that said many of the people I see on a daily basis are actually fairly educated on the issues on the local and state ballot as well as the major candidates. These are people across the political spectrum, I tend to ask them to do a little research though when they spout talking points or say “x candidate said y”, i typically suggest they look at the context, or suggest they find the actual quote because we both know BOTH sides twist words.
That said I also know several that are so blinded by their party, no matter what the actual facts are they will dismiss them.
I am with you that when i do talk politics in the wild I do always slip in the advice to do their own research. And look for opposite views.
When my kids were growing up and the discussions would turn political, I hammered that into them and would always say everyone even dad has an agenda and its up to you to find out if that agenda reflects your own beliefs and opinions.
Same here, I also told all 3 of my kids that I don’t care who/what you vote for/against but I required them to do their research first, that way they are making an educated decision. I said I may not agree with your votes but I know they are based on their research. To this day my oldest daughter and I discuss politics from time to time and I try to “get her” but she always backs up her decisions.
Its irrelevant, those who are not citizens should not vote so whether an illegal alien is educated in civics, the political issues, platforms of politicams or not is irrelevant to this discussion of educated voters.
This topic is not about anyone who is not a citizen being allowed to vote.
Border issues do not need to be shoehorned into every topic.
You missed the point. I didn’t say allowing illegal immigrants to vote was the same issue, I merely suggest that the reason libs are pro illegal immigration is that they see a potential path to getting more lib voters, just like they see lowering the voting age would favor them at the poles. In brief, libs are always trying to game the system to get more votes.
