I am just a typical guy. I been working since 14 yrs old. I have a college degree and am retired military. I was a contractor for a dozen years and am still working. OH, I do not telework. I am living the AMERICAN DREAM.

Most anyone who is not a drug user, criminal, or not afraid of hard work can follow my footsteps easily.

That’s what I’m wondering—unless someone maybe has a challenge like Downs Syndrome, or perhaps is working minimum wage jobs as part time, second jobs or even retirement supplements, who stays at minimum wage employers long term?

Those jobs were meant to be stepping stones, not career paths.

I’m not seeing minimum wages as the “McJobs” some see them.

I keep hearing we’ve just got to raise these workers’ salaries. Increasingly employers who start at minimum wage are offering workers a chance to invest in themselves:

https://vittana.org/15-advantages-and-disadvantages-of-minimum-wage-for-workers#:~:text=A%20minimum%20wage%20allows%20workers%20to%20invest%20in,tuition%20or%20permit%20flexible%20hours%20to%20continue%20schooling.

IIRC Starbucks, McDonalds, Chipotle Grill offer educational assistance. Here’s Starbucks’ program:

https://www.starbucks.com/careers/working-at-starbucks/education

They’re being offered a chance to further their education, go a direction they want to go, they’d rather stay home on handouts?

That says a lot about the mindset of the entitlement minded. They couldn’t think long term if you paid them under the table tax free to do it.

To some Americans it is, because they compete with McDonald’s sometimes for operators. Not to mention the heat you deal with in the plant.

Or they say the hell with it and turn to automation

Amazon is hiring.

People are hiring, but they’d rather sit on ass! It’s easiest to get paid to do nothing.

Ok. But that specific machine does not cut a pizza.

Easily remedied.

Ok, but that particular machine doesn’t do it. Also, what happens when the machine goes down and you have no one to replace it? These automated machines are getting better with time. But right now they break down quite often.

At the convenience stores near me these machines are either out of order or out of money quite often. People have to fill these machines with money.

Not much different than when your hired help doesn’t show up for work.

A lot of that has to do with pay. It’s just a reality. Me personally, if I knowingly took a job, regardless of pay, I would do the job. Depending on the pay, I might not go above and beyond, but I’ll do what’s expected.

Right now they’re having a problem at my job. They have resorted to paying supervisors to do my job since no one is taking the overtime. Supervisors are jumping at the chance since their time and a half is 60 dollars an hour plus. Including mileage. My overtime pay is around 42 an hour. But most people are young and new. They get paid 22.50 on overtime. They’re just not doing it.

It just came out there are more job openings now than ever! It’s easier to get paid to do nothing, this is the problem, quit paying people and they will work.

Its cuz kids all are told they can have desk jobs and be paid 6 figures! Pipe dreams and bs!

Costco is hiring. Wonder if the stay at homers are going to get off their asses, put on shoes and apply. We can have lots of jobs available for willing workers. Availability of jobs is not the question. Find people to fill jobs is the problem

Look at the Roman Empire’s decline and equate that to liberal America. Rome began to face many problems that together allowed the fall of the Roman Empire. The three main problems that caused Rome to fall were:

invasions by barbarians (has not happened here yet but may be 100 different countries flooding across and spreading COVID),

an unstable government (that is already here with liberal government antics), and

pure laziness and negligence (We now have this issue.)
