14 years ago I used to look up to John Locke and other fathers of the Enlightenment like Rousseau. I was proud to call myself a liberal. Man, have I soured on the entire cast if them. I’m disappointed to find out, though, that Locke lied about not knowing of Hobbes’ work. His friend described him as vain and self-absorbed.
That sucks.

I knew he followed Thomas Hobbes. They both studied at Oxford…whether they crossed paths is another story.
Our fathers basically adopted Locke’s theory while I basically follow Hobs.
Either way similarities between the two has long since been ignored in today society/governance.

Yeah he had to know about Hobbes work considering they hung around the same group of people.

You are a Hobbesian? Where do you find areas of agreement with him?

I believe about his theories of human nature that’s left to there own device. That humans can never live in total peace.
Now I don’t totally follow his philosophy, I don’t believe in his power of authority. That’s where I side with Locke.
Now having said that…what made you to respond to me? You haven’t responded to anything I said for couple years. This is out of the blue.
