There are more Americans muttering their thoughts to the masses than ever before in our history. Like, exponentially more.
This notion that we have less free speech now is mind numbingly stupid.

There are also more Americans who withhold their thoughts so as to not be attacked by the folks who do not want to hear them.

You think there are more Americans today who hold their thoughts for fear of being attacked compared to past eras?
Haha. I wish to god this were true. Where have you been man. Nobody can hold a thought longer than 2 seconds in this world, especially polemical ones.

I know it to be true (the study I cited notwithstanding) at least within my spere. More so by conservatives than libs. Libs are very quick to unfriend people who say things that upset them, not only in person, but on social media too. I have a lot of liberal friends and relatives that I donât want to lose over some trivial political comment. And I know many of them would if I told them what I thought. I had one liberal step-relative who I thought was a good guy who unfriended me on Facebook when I accepted his request to debate an issue because I had the gall to disagree with him. It turned out he was seeking affirmation, not a debate.

I donât know how healthy it is for the republic as a whole when such a large percentage of people are afraid to say the wrong thing. Yes they are a lot of people that shouldnât be blabbering all the time but if these numbers are correct itâs likely to alienate people further to communicate with others outside their group. Not sure how good that is long term.
I have seen similar numbers but CATO did a poll that showed 62% of Americans were afraid to speak thinking they will upset people a society built on walking on glass
From the poll
âNearly two out of every three Americans (62 percent) say the political climate these days prevents them from saying things they believe - because theyâre worried that others might find their opinions offensive.â
I doubt this bodes well with a democracy especially one with multiple people from different classes, races, and cultures. I donât want to use the word but this sort of â â â â could lead to Balkanization were few venture outside their group identities.

I listened to Rogan and comic Ron White yesterday. Pretty good show. About the only thing they had in common was stand up comedy.
