Yes, but being offended by other people’s speech is not a consequence for which they are accountable.

Nice world you live in. But the reality is that people can, and should- get offended by ■■■■ people say. There is no carte blanche to say whatever you want wherever you want. Nor should there be. This site is a perfect example. There are moderators; people are suspended and banned for what they say. You can’t openly curse, etc. AKA rules of etiquette- which is a good thing.

Now you may say the rules for some places like Twitter, FB and Spotify are too rigid, and some say too lax…but there will be rules. Otherwise the whole thing turns into Jerry Springer meets 4Chan meets Stormfront.

You live in the same world. Its time you realized that and quit whining about the things other people say. If you don’t agree with them, or even just don’t like the way they said it, in this world of ours, your choices are to rebut them, to ignore them, or to not listen to them. But you don’t get to shut them up.

This is what Neil Young and others are trying to do, what Spotify does is their business. Every business should be able to choose who they host or serve including wedding cake bakeries.

Not even remotely. You have a right to not listen to anything you don’t want to hear (like my posts, for example) but you have no right to try to prevent me from hearing it. That is what this Young/Rogan thing is all about. Young (and his supporters) are tying to prevent me … and you … from hearing Rogan and/or his guests, regardless of the content of their speech.

In your heart, you know I’m right.

Young didn’t want to be associated with a platform that allowed for disinformation that would lead to needless deaths. I personally think that was too far because there’s loads of “junkcasts” and programs out there that are peddling garbage (Dr. Oz comes to mind) and its silly to crusade against all of them.

But Spotify has obviously gone back and caught a lot of horrendous Rogan shows that violate their terms of service and have pulled over a 100. I support that because Spotify has a right to enforce their rules.

Rogan also stupidly splayed the n word out and made reference to Planet of the Apes for a black neighborhood. Stupid ■■■■ that has taken down other comedians. He genuinely apologized and I doubt he’ll do any of that again. I’m all for supporting Spotify’s decision not to “cancel” him over that.

So- my answer to you is nuanced.

If Young was upset he could have just stated his reasons and left without trying to get Spotify to oust Rogan. What he did was try to silence Rogan completely over what he considered misinformation about Covid vaccines (which had been presented by Rogan’s guest "experts) by playing the “he goes or I go” gambit. He lost.

The N-word/planet of the apes thing came up in response to Spotify choosing to keep Rogan. It had nothing to do with Young’s objections. At least you guys should be honest about it.

And if they apply the same standard to everyone on Spotify, they’re gunna lose a lot of business.

That Planet of the Apes story is bad, and the conversation with Joey Diaz where Diaz bragged about forcing young female comedians to have sexual contact with him in order to get some time on the stage and Rogan laughed hysterically is another bad take.

He has lived on the edge for a while and had a fairly successful run at it, but now that focus is on him, there are a lot of folks going back into his archives and that is never a good thing.

While I love Neil Young’s music, him taking it off Spotify is simply him not wanting to associate with that platform due to misinformation regarding vaccinations and COVID. He had a brush with Polio I believe and you won’t find a stronger believer in vaccines than a previous Polio patient. He has every right to state his opinion, just like Rogan does. And he will face the consequences of his opinion just like Rogan will.

That isn’t censorship, that is being a grown up.
