He can’t be nixed, he isn’t a spotify employee. At most they can stop hosting him, plenty of other people would be happy to have him instead.

It’s always mattered.

You don’t think there is a difference between quoting Huck Finn and calling someone the N word?

Anyway, here’s to many more episodes with such colorful characters as Randall Carlson and Graham Hancock. :+1:

Same as Imus was fired by CBS, Spotify can stop hosting him. If the backlash continues, they will protect the bottom dollar.

Gee, I could have sworn you said no white person could say it, period. He didn’t call anyone the N word.

Yeah- probably the most important piece of comedy was Lenny Bruce’s use of racial and cultural slurs. Context really matters.

This isn’t then, plenty of other platforms out there now.

Even white comedians rarely dive into the use of the N word. Unless they are quoting a racist. White comedians have used black stereotypes in funny ways… which I think works depending on the context and delivery.

One of my favorite white comedians, Gary Owens, does not say the N word but he definitely uses black stereotypes and hasn’t even been close to being canceled.

Absolutely- and like I said- I think the dude gets it that indiscriminate use of the n word for shock value is ignorant at best. And if we censored him for who he interviews we should have censored folks all the way back to Jerry Springer.

There will always be platforms that cater to what pays the money.

Hmm I’ll have to look him up.

WOW!! Let the bidding begin!!

That would be Howard Stern.

He wasn’t doing it for shock value.

Nope…That is Stern’s shtick.

Comedic? To elucidate points? To try and take the power away from the word? What do you think?

Nobody actually gives a ■■■■ about Joe Rogan’s trip to the movie theater over a decade ago. Some kids never grow up, no matter how old they get.

Rogan was more of a shock jock back in the day. He has only become the scattershot interviewer in the last 5 years.

You shouldn’t. That doesn’t mean there aren’t certain situations where it could be used. My kids shouldn’t run with a knife but maybe they need to to protect their siblings from harm.

The word isn’t banned. Especially “negro”. Plenty of white people have said “negro” when quoting. N with a R is different but even then quoting (or even in acting) it can be acceptable.

Joe Rogan wasn’t quoting anything. Then add the “planet of the apes” comment and it paints a different picture. Do I think he should be canceled? Not necessarily, but I’ll leave that to other comedians to weight in on.

Honestly that was the clincher that the dude did have some underlying racism more than the n-word dumbness. When you lose Dwayne “The Rock”… But even that I mostly give a pass on. People say dumb ■■■■ and if you have a podcast forever and you’re basically a shock jock- you’re gonna say dumb ■■■■ He apologized profusely- good on him.

Also… this all happened when he was a grown ass man. It wasn’t teenage tweets or an old set from when he was 20. He was in his 40s and in Hollywood. He had to know…
