The irony is that my response that he replied to actually continued the topic where his was just a “nothing burger”. It was a brush off and an ad hom.

Yeah … you continued the topic as if the conversation had not already dealt with those very things. You brought nothing new to the discussion, thus it was a nothing burger. No irony involved.
