I disagree with the premise that both the USMCA and China trade negotiations maybe in jeopardy.
Trump knows that he needs one or both soon or it will become a huge issue in the Democrats campaigns.
Today he gave China a huge leverage. They can now say “ok Mr. President, we will start a Biden investigation but here is what we want on trade”. And in the end we will be get a China trade deal that will look a lot like the previous one, but it will have Trump’s name on it.

Actually anything before the inquiry was just democrats hoping for a recession. BUT NOW anything that happens is because of the inquiry and nothing Trump has done or any other worldwide factors. Inquiry.

If so, Trump has so few major accomplishments and the fact that trade was a major issue that he campaigned on. He needs a win and I think that he also realizes that the Fed won’t help him out with the economy and so one or both of these deals would certainly shore up the economy.

Oh, sorry.
On USMCA both sides are pointing fingers when it comes to negotiations. The Democrats have the upper hand here. They don’t necessarily want to give Trump a win. But they also don’t want to be seen as blocking a deal that could help US manufacturing and farming. It seems to me that the ball is in Trump’s court on this one.
On the China deal I also think the ball is in Trump’s court. He and folks like Larry Kudlow want all of us to think that China is a hurting puppy and they are going to wait it out a bit and get the best deal.
China will wait this one out and not give in to a deal that will not be of great benefit to them.
