It’s Oregon. The State is still actively fighting “right to die” which was voted on over a decade ago. They do what they want, regardless of the voters.

Fighting against a “right to die” doesn’t strike me as too problematic. Catholic and most other Christian social teaching is postively opposed to that.

If a patient wants to die and their doctor agrees to provide assistance, why is it any business of the government or anyone else for that matter?

I don’t know what I think about all the immigrant in prison business. It’s very complex.

I don’t think there’s any doubt privatizing prisons has corrupted the injustice system.

All illegal immigrants are not created equal. Some are truly good people looking for a chance. They have contributed greatly to this country. I see them everywhere I go. And their children.

Others are predators taking advantage of any hand up we offer to the above.

And then there are probably many who fall in between.

I do know far too many of our citizens are in prison. We have far too many laws. And we are focused on the wrong “crimes.”

Nope. We finally have someone interested in establishing a border unlike the open border of previous administrations.

I would tend to believe in the sincerity of their motives a bit more IF they were sending these detainees into either BoP facilities, where populations could be rearranged to separate detainees from regular prisoners or if they were sent to State facilities that contract to hold federal pretrial detainees.

But they are going out of their way to send them to private facilities, when public space is available.

If they want me to have confidence in the motives behind their actions.

Use all public space available before going to private facilities.

Pass a comprehensive bill that adds additional immigration judges, Article III Judges, Marshals, Assistant United States Attorneys and other staff necessary to actually speedily try all these people they are purporting to arrest.

Because right now, they cannot try all the people they are arresting. It is impossible given the total lack of resources.

It isn’t required that You be convinced.

We have more than adequate facilities already. This is a temporary problem and the permanent solution is to get control of the border.

Spend the money on securing the border, cut the flow to a trickle and then finish dealing with the overload here.

We’ve used prisons and military bases in the past under similar circumstances and this will be fine again.

The problem we keep returning to though is the need to secure the border once and for all.
