In some states they still can. Terry stops are still legal. Even in Oregon where they claim the police can’t stop you for an id check they follow that up with their ability to detain a person on suspicion until they can ascertain their identity. Sure sounds like being required to prove who you are to me.

True. And that’s Texas. In Oregon, it’s perfectly legal for a cop to stop someone on a sidewalk and ask for their ID, then haul them in when they refuse. Even though they’re never being “arrested.”

It’s Oregon. The State is still actively fighting “right to die” which was voted on over a decade ago. They do what they want, regardless of the voters.

Fighting against a “right to die” doesn’t strike me as too problematic. Catholic and most other Christian social teaching is postively opposed to that.
