Then if they vote to be a part of the teamsters, the Company can not fire them, and MUST negotiate with the Union on their behalf. Dude, slow down. Luckily they voted down representation? I can guarantee you everyone that did was never in a union. They just believed the horse crap fed to them. Let’s face it, most dime a dozen workers aren’t very bright. I get paid $32.55 an hour for the roadway I work for. Most similar non union jobs go anywhere between 15 an hour to 25 an hour at best. I also get 4 weeks vacation, 3 weeks sick and multiple personal days after a short time of employment. Non union counterparts don’t even come close to this. This, all for 11 bucks a week. I’m not even getting into representation for other stuff.

Are these non union employees lucky they chose non union? I can go on. We can get into the difference between UPS and Fed Ex if you like. We can get into Verizon non union VS union as well. The pay isn’t remotely close. Non union is always company friendly. It is very rare that any rank and file worker is better off with non union over union. Almost non existent.

If I can band together with my fellow laborers to extract as much as we can for ourselves in the market then more the better.

You’re not telling me anything I don’t already know. I’ve been in the workforce for over 30 years and I have seen how things have changed. It’s not how it used to be. Where I work a mason, electrician, or welder don’t get paid anywhere near what they can be paid on the outside. But they get paid very well and it is steady. There is no shortage of work. So yeah, a union can benefit them as well.

Walmart doesn’t have a union. If people want a better wage, they should go to a company that offers a better wage. What’s stopping them? I have personally done this 4 or 5 times.

Most unions involve skilled labor. They can try for the next ten years to unionize or the can leave for more money right now. The best way to earn good money is to prepare yourself for life. Going into life un prepared is a bad idea. Cashier is a job, not a career. Find a career.

Don’t know how all the others operate, but the one here does a market comparison (see’s what cashiers in the three county area make, see what stock boys make, janitorial staff ect) then they boost the workers wages to 10 cents and hour more than the average. My Ex wife (and ex mother in law) worked at wally for a number of years. They were happy with the wages and bennefits, and the flexability of their scheduling.

Exactly. And if somebody decides that stocking shelves does not pay enough, they could always become a pipe fitter. I understand pipe fitter pays pretty well. People do have choices. Nobody is forced to accept a low paying job.

They could. The thing is people don’t work there long enough to organize anything. Turnover is high and it’s meant to be that way. Same with the Amazon warehouse. They will always be hiring.
