I would hate to own anything there. Prices through the floor.
I imagine a lot of people moving out of the city.
Why? They are not getting rid of the idea of citizen safety. They are getting rid of the idea of traditional policing.
The one that is a burned out shell? Are they making it a monument or something?
So has this āMr. Rodgersā ever been tried before?
Just as a point of reference - Defunding / disbanding a city police force does not mean removing law enforcement.
Camden NJ did this is 2012. Crime dropped significantly.
The county police force took over the law enforcement and the budget for city went to other community programs.
It was, by all measures, successful!
Whatever was done clearly did not have a lasting effect, here is 2018:
āIn New Jersey, the two cities that were given the designation include Camden and Newark. Camden came in second, making it the nationās worst āmurder capitalā behind only East St. Louis, Ill. and Chester, Pa. Chester, like Camden, is in the Philadelphia suburban area, and the two towns are only 20 miles apart.ā
As someone who lives in NJ, believe me you DO NOT want to live in Camden.

In hindsight perhaps Minneapolis needs to really follow through with this notion of not having a police force to enforce laws and protect the citizenry.
Judging by the violence, arson, looting, assaults and killing that has taken place? The hundreds of millions of dollars in property damages and livelihoods lost? Minneapolis can be an example to cities worldwide!
Then after a brief period of time when psychopaths and criminal gangs take over the progressive numbskulls can toss their failed social engineering experiment on the lib dung heap with the rest of the other follies.
Thereās no fear mongering involved but just logic. Take the police out of the picture and gangs will take full advantage to be totally lawless.
Its gonna take more then 8 years to resolve issues that had been going on for 40+ years.
The question is not is Camden a crime free place. The question is since they defunded the Camden police dept, did things get better?

Good thing almost NO one is calling for a removal of all police.
Please learn what āDefunding Policeā mean.
You prob also think āSanctuary citiesā means illegal Aliens can not be arrested.
Hereās another article from 2019:
āCamden has been dubbed the āmost dangerous cityā in New Jersey. Thatās according to the folks at the financial news and opinion site 24/7 Wall St., who dug into FBI data from 2017 to determine violent crime rates in nearly 2,000 cities and towns.ā

Depends on the āalternate modelā.
ok. So you arenāt listening. Cool.
Your measurements should simply be
āHas Camden become worse or better in regards to crime since removing the camden police forceā
Thats it. Thats the only question to ask.
The police force was in effect for 140+ years, they got rid of it 8 years ago.
You arenāt gonna fix 140+ years of abuse in 8 years. But you can start to move in the right direction (Which again, by every single measurement, things have improved, even if they are still bad).

My expectation as well.
Suppose they rebuild the police department without the public sector union?
I just wonder how many of the current cops would want to sign up for the new model.

The thread is about Minneapolis disbanding its police department. Disband means to discontinue right?
Also going personal is against the tos. Might want to keep that out of it.

Take it as a gift.
I would submit that the left doesnāt really think much at all.
It means disbanding the Minneapolis city police dept. It does not mean removing all law enforcement from the city.
There is a difference. I even gave you a example of a city that did it and have it and are at the lowest crime rate its had.
