It’s called “investigation” and “oversight”. And it isnt just crimes, but also to see if there is corruption or conflicts of interest… Checks and balances. If you want authoritative government then ok.

You’re asking why Congress should look into whether or not our President has lied about business dealings with Russia, or any other conflicts of interest, by seeing if his taxes show activity of said dealings? Unreal… basic checks and balances.

How are the a conflict if after he became president another family member started running the business (remember he wasn’t elected till nov '16 and it wasn’t a certainty at all up until them)? If family members are running the business to be the most profitable possible – how would that be different from a person running it as a supposedly blind trust (even though everyone knows what businesses trump owns) running it in the most profitable way possible?

One reason for investigation is because there may be other items of compromat Russia has on Trump, other than just that one.
“Business dealings” like offering a $50 million penthouse to Putin free of charge is certainly something he should have disclosed. Not illegal for a private citizen, but questions of loyalty to country certainly come to mind when politicians engage in such behavior.
Was this done while he was a private citizen? You know before he was elected in Nov '16? And right now it’s just an allegation from someone who either A) lied before or is B) lying now. Unless you have other substansive proof other than Cohan saying he lied previous because he thought he’d get a pardon.
