IT BEGINS: First Democrat-Majority Bill to Target Trump Tax Returns in January

The new Democratic majority’s first order of business in the House of Representatives will target President Trump’s tax returns in January; setting the stage for a high-stakes legal showdown with the Commander-in-Chief.

According to Fox News, the first piece of legislation -titled H.R. 1- will target the President’s personal finances; making it a federal mandate that all presidents fully disclose their income taxes.

“But the legislation is largely symbolic, as it has little chance of actually becoming a law. The Republican-held Senate, which increased its majority after the midterm elections, is unlikely to vote for the bill. Trump himself could also refuse to sign it,” writes Fox.

“They’re under audit, they have been for a long time, they’re extremely complex, people wouldn’t understand them,” Trump said earlier this year. “Nobody turns over a return when it’s under audit.”

President Trump needs to demand that this witch hunt audit of all his tax returns be ended immediately. It’s obvious that the IRS is just going to endlessly audit Trump’s returns until they find something, anything, to ding him on. It’s a national disgrace.

It’s obvious that democrats love weaponizing government to be used against their political enemies.

Until that weapon is used on them…they will continue abusing goverment.

That’s why you never support giving goverment more power regardless which party is in power.

BTW welcome to Hannity

You guys lost the house. Deal with it.

Yep. And thanks.

yeah! what he did before winning the precedency doesnt matter now. witch hunt fishhing expedition with no fish caught and none getting caught. none of the people arrested so far had ANYTHING to do with trump.

I The OP isn’t a very good synopsis of the initial legislation Democrats will pass in the House.

It’s a sweeping anti corruption bill of which disclosure of a Presidents finances is a small but very popular component. Almost all of the bills components are popular with the public.

It will pass the House and of course McConnell will strangle and then Republicans have to explain to their constituents why they are pro corruption. Since the most vulnerable Republicans are gone it should peel off some GOO bites as well, now that the Trump hold on the GOP seems to be be greatly weakened.

But it’s funny that people who supposedly follow politics and think several moves ahead read the OP and all they can come up with is hurrr durrr weaponize gummint grunt scratch. Not much insight there.

Great synopsis… I would also point out that they don’t need this law to get his tax returns, they already have an anti-corruption law, passed in 1924, that gives them access to his tax returns.

I guess if you never pay taxes you wouldn’t know how complex the tax code is! What liberals call loopholes are nothing but complicated tax laws and it takes a slew of tax attorneys to take advantage of every line item and “all” wealthy people take advantage. That would include liberal hero’s like Gates and Buffet and includes Hollywood celebs.

It’s a ridiculous request and it’s just another liberal tactic and weapon in their arsenal. I say DON’T do it Mr. President , let the lefty Dems ask and demand until they are blue in the the face.

Who are you guessing never pays taxes?

You think this is about loopholes, and use thereof? Maybe it’s about a bigger picture.

A “ridiculous request,” yet every major candidate for President for the last 40 years has done it.
Is Trump scared of what will be found? Is that why he’s lying about why he won’t release them?

Here’s a synopsis;

Campaign finance

  • Public financing of campaigns, powered by small donations. Under Sarbanes’s vision, the federal government would provide a voluntary 6-1 match for candidates for president and Congress, which means for every dollar a candidate raises from small donations, the federal government would match it six times over. “If you give $100 to a candidate that’s meeting those requirements, then that candidate would get another $600 coming in behind them,” Sarbanes told Vox this summer. “The evidence and the modeling is that most candidates can do as well or better in terms of the dollars they raise if they step into this new system.”
  • Passing the DISCLOSE Act , pushed by Rep. David Cicilline (RI) and Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (RI), both Democrats from Rhode Island. This would require Super PACs and “dark money” political organizations to make their donors public.
  • Passing the Honest Ads Act , championed by Sens. Amy Klobuchar (MN) and Mark Warner (VA), which would require Facebook and Twitter to disclose the source of money of political ads on their platforms, and share how much money was spent.

Ethics

  • Requiring the president to disclose his or her tax returns.
  • Stopping members of Congress from using taxpayer money to settle sexual harassment cases or buy first-class plane tickets.
  • Giving the Office of Government Ethics the power to do more oversight and enforcement and put in stricter lobbying registration requirements.
  • Create a new ethical code for the US Supreme Court, ensuring all branches of government are impacted by the new law.

Voting rights

  • Creating new national automatic voter registration that asks voters to opt out, rather than opt in, ensuring more people will be signed up to vote. Early voting and online voter registration would also be promoted.
  • Restoring the Voting Rights Act, part of which was dismantled by a US Supreme Court decision in 2013. Ending partisan gerrymandering in federal elections and prohibiting voter roll purging.
  • Beefing up elections security, including requiring the Director of National Intelligence to do regular checks on foreign threats.

It’s kind of sad that the only thing the OP can take from that is “ZOMG DIMS GONNA GET TRUMP TAXES”. That’s either an overt admission that thy know he’s a financial crook or they’re purposely misinforming their audience about the intent of legislation.

The people of the United States gave a clear mandate in the midterms for this, it’s what the country wants.

Good.

Let Fat Donald sweat his fat keester off over what all the Democrat House is going to look into.

Normally I wouldn’t care for so called “witch hunts” but of course man-child idiot Fat Donald has placed me squarely in his “enemy” column, just because I differ in opinion, so the “normal” gloves are off.

So witch hunt away girls and boys of the next House, witch hunt away!

As Michelle Malkin would say when Hillary would have yet another Republican led inquisition, “Boo Freaking Hoo!”

:hugs:

Besides.

If Fat Donald has done nothing wrong he has nothing to worry about, right?

So exactally what crime specifically are the looking for in his PERSONAL tax returns the last 10 years?

What are they going to find the Mueller and the IRS so far hasn’t or will not?

What are you afraid of them finding? If theres nothing there then what’s the big deal? Virtually every other president released their taxes.

That…is crazy talk.

All crimes are forgiven once a person becomes president. Come on man!

Tax returns are a starting point. Perfectly legal returns can be a starting point for forensic accountants to lead them down a trail that the IRS can’t or won’t explore.

It could be as simple as Trump doesn’t want them released because it will show his income as underwhelming relative to his boasting. But I think it would also point to a lot of dirty fingers in a lot of dirty pies.

No a clear mandate would have been control of the house and senate. They got the house, but flipped a smaller number of seats than typically in a mid term election flip. So no there is no mandate.

Your not answering, what crime are they going to find that mueller and the IRS hasn’t or won’t find?

Will it the Romeny all over again:

Look secret overseas bank accounts on his taxes.
uhhhhh, he disclosed them, they are not secret.
Well why does he need oversea’s bank account.
Is it against the law?
Well why didn’t he disclose them, what’s he trying to hide!
uhhh, didn’t we just cover that they are disclosed, you know right there on the tax form you found them on?
He needs to explain why he needs them!

So you don’t believe Mueller has the returns and is trying to connect them within the Russia investigation? You think congress can do a better job then him?

And that is against what law specifically?

So are they going to demand the justice department look into, supeana every tax return of every rich person in the country they THINK may have fings in pies?
