They have only the power of a party holding 10% of the seats.
Naw, itâs okay, theyâve been kingmakers and have outsized influence on Likud.
Simply a fact, they could have the same effect on any other partyâs likelihood of forming a govât. Any other group with the same 10% would have equal influence as well.
Itâs how their system works.
There you go. Power beyond that of a very small minority, no matter the circumstances. You got it.
The same power any small minority with the same 10% has under their system.
Fine, I will amend for you - âOnly the power of a very small minority, [but that is a lot of power under their system, just like every single other small party in Israel]â
Thatâs still false. In fact itâs false and rambling.
Nope, theyâve had more power, historically, currently, and prospectively.
No it isnât. They have exactly the same power as any other group with the same percentage of seats.
That is how their system is setup and always has been.
âExactly the same powerâ? - haha, you go with that. Youâre right, the Heredim have no more power than anybody else. Itâs not like theyâre exempt from military service or anything, and threaten to withdraw support any time conscription for them is even mentioned. They are literally a protected class.
The Arabs really stormed this election, 15 seats.
Simply a fact, why are you upset by that fact?
The system allows for a small minority to have a big voice in electing the PM.
Our own system with the EC allows greater representation to smaller minorities as well than does the a direct democracy. The same is true of the senate since states are represented rather than individuals.
and if neither of the two larger parties get enough seat to form a government, guess who get to pick the winner.
Iâm not upset with the fact. Iâve been teaching it.
Good for them.
Youâre totally right, btw. The Heredim have no more power than anybody else. Itâs not like theyâre exempt from military service or anything, and threaten to withdraw support any time conscription for them is even mentioned. They are literally a protected class.
We donât have to guess, not those of us who understand the system anyhow.
Any small minority party has the same power under their system.
This is not what you originally stated. You said it had only the power of a very small minority, with no reference whatsoever to that power (1) actually being substantial and (2) the same as all other parties. You misspoke, or were wrong, itâs okay.
and if its a coalition government the big party is at the whim of the smaller party because without their support the PM canât govern. Which has been the case for most of Israeli history
PM are not elected they are appointed.
It is looking increasingly like Netanyahu has no path to 61 seats.
Blue and White is willing to forma Grand Coalition with Likud, IF and ONLY IF Netanyahu is formally excluded from any cabinet position and IF and ONLY IF the Ultra-Orthodox parties are excluded from government.
I shouldnât have to explain the contest of the discussion to you, the subject is the Israeli elections.
how long you think that coalition is going to last, another election in 6 months.
