We are a two party oligarchy with occasional outsiders allowed through to maintain the illusion. And they are quickly hammered into place.

I’d take it a step further, and argue that the parties are two sides of the same coin in this oligarchy. Some differences in policy and who they try to appeal to, but in the end both serve and are subject to the same monied interests.

Not every impact can be measured in dollars or by direct pen to paper. He can influence people to follow his agenda by threats or coercion. He can influence foreign nations to question relationships by his interactions and not fulfilling promises. He can give credibility to fringe or despised ideologies by either not condoning them or blantantly approving.

On the face of it I can see why it seems so. The one thing to remember is each country will always act in what it perceives as its own best interest. Always. And their context is always different than ours.

They know we need them and vice versa.

Did you ever notice how reasonable and well adjusted people never say one word about splitting the country up or starting over? It’s only the fringes that talk about it.

Heck, the military would crush any fringe group that tried. And sane people wouldn’t let the fringe influence politicians to do something that crazy.

So it’s always just talk and it always comes from the extreme right or the extreme left.

The extreme left and right have so much in common.
