You don’t have to, and you didn’t… bravo!

That’s an awful lot of assumptions you made there… based on what exactly? I don’t know how the illegal population is in your area, but where I’m at, they go out of their way to avoid ER visits… and reporting crimes, and signing up for any sort of assistance (public or private). When the schools shut down, we immediately began preparing and offering meals for these families because we knew they would be in need. At first, no one came… we quickly realized because we had asked for names and addresses so we could deliver portions of the meals. Didn’t even occur to us they were frightened by that. So, we stripped that requirement, and suddenly the meals were moving. These families are very afraid of having their info fall in the wrong hands and being reported for deportation. Fortunately, where I live, we value and treasure this community, illegal or not, but it’s a struggle to get them to accept that message.
