You used a saying that characterizes people as swine

Face up to it. Enough with the personal attacks.

Smart people know what that saying means and where it comes from. I think you truly know, but are choosing a dishonest characterization of what it means.

‘It shouldn’t be about empowering men either. A person’s gender shouldn’t exclude them from the position. It doesn’t mean the purpose is to explicitly empower their sex/gender. It means the position shouldn’t exclude women, just because they are women.’

That is your view. You want to start your own irreligion and you are happy to be an atheist who views that is the way you want, go ahead, and join your atheistic club, go to it. You have no right to impose your view on those who follow a belief in Scripture that you are your fellow atheists reject.

Catholics don’t have to explain in a way that we have to satisfy you. Protestant Christians interpret Scriptures in their own way. For Catholics at least, there are different roles in Church, and the way it is set up, we believe one of the roles that is excluded from the ministerial priesthood is women. Although Catholics also believe in the priesthood of all believers as well, as noted in 1st Peter 2:9, but does not exclude a ministerial priesthood established by Christ himself, Mt. 26, Luke 22, Mk, 14, John 20, only for males. Catholics believe in apostolic succession, and that would include succession of ministerial priests, for Jesus, who though he elevated women in his dealing with them, only had men as the original 12 disciples/apostles. That is based on Scripture and tradition. You reject all Scripture you can live as the way you want to, and those of us who go by Scripture and tradition and the Church live by the way to satisfy not you, but God, who we believe will be our judge. Others go by Sola Scriptura which is by they believe is Scripture as the only ultimate authoritative guide, or really by their own interpretation of Scripture as they see it (which leads to the many different types of churches), and they believe that what is important to them, is to live their life in how they will be accountable to God. They have different ideas on that, and some Protestants accept women pastors, others don’t, though they all reject the ministerial priesthood and apostolic succession of the Catholic faith. The Orthodox Church, which also believes in apostolic succession, Scripture and Tradition, is in line with the Catholic Church and does not have women priests as well.

It is important for understanding Scripture to know the background, understand the background at the time, to study specific words and their meanings, understand the type of genre that this Scripture consists of, to help us to understand the meaning of Scripture. Catholics also use Tradition and the historical Church understanding of Scriptures. Christians have our beliefs, you have your beliefs. You can have all your objections to Christianity, just as we can disagree with your atheism;. However, for those of us think that there can be different roles of men and women in the Church does not mean that women are thought of as any less than men, but it ain’t up to you to determine for Christian that you can’t have different roles for different sexes.

The Catholic Church is not a democracy. Not based on opinion polls. It doesn’t matter if some woman want to join the priesthood, that teaching is permanent, will not be changed. Basically, the Church believes that Jesus established the ministerial priesthood with men only, and believe that that priesthood that Christ established has lasted 2000 years and however many years left before he comes to judge the living and the dead at the end of time. For those who really want a women ministerial priesthood, they are welcome to create their own Church.

As a Catholic woman I have served on the Parish Council, taught religious education, served as a Eucharistic Minister both in church and to those who were unable to be at church. I have visited the home bound–and in this time have met many women who have done so much more.

A few observations I have made: With the advent of female altar servers, the number of boys who serve in this capacity has dwindled, at least in some places. Ushers had also once been men, but now in my present parish we have more females serving as ushers than men.

It has been my experience, throughout my life, that men, probably more often than not, defer to women. (Didn’t Adam defer to Eve?) When women take over, men get out of their way, usually feeling that everything is in good hands–which it usually is.

What strikes me when I read the Gospel is how balanced Jesus is. Another thing that comes across is the role women played in service. In the story of Martha, Jesus even notes that Martha is busy with many things. Is it just happenstance that Jesus assigned men to the special priesthood role instead of women? Or, better than we might today, did he understand the desired balance in male and female roles?

Could it be that Jesus understood the female proclivity to be busy in many things, and that sometimes we needed to take a page from Mary and the twelve apostles and choose the better part of stillness; that sometimes we women simply need to let go of being busy and taking over?

And perhaps men sometimes need the reminder that they need to shoulder responsibility, not because a woman cannot take on all responsibility, but because women do not need to take on all responsibilities.

As a Catholic woman, I recommend heeding Jesus’ advice and his way of doing things. I like the balance and see no need to tip it.

Yea, tons of role for women in church is wonderful. Jesus was revolutionary, the way he talked to the Samaritan woman, the disciples were surprised that he did. The Church elevates Mary above any other person besides Jesus because God chose her to be God’s mother (Luke 1:43) who gave birth to the savior of the World, 1 Tim. 4;10. However, the Church also reflects Jesus who chose only men to be the apostles, and men to be priests in the ministerial priesthood (and its successors), though there is a universal priesthood of all believers. I personally didn’t like altar boys being supplanted by altar girls, as that is the training ground for priests. That didn’t help vocations for the priesthood.

Women can pray according to these verses.
Head cover is separate issue.

1 Corinthians 11:5
New American Standard Bible

5 But every woman who has her head uncovered while praying or prophesying disgraces her head, for she is one and the same as the woman [a]whose head is shaved.
