For those reading this…poster above wants you to believe that no one is being banned from social media for expressing their opinions. They’re denying their censorship of opposing views.

Gaslighting. I said nothing about censorship or bannings from social media, nor did I deny it was happening.

You claimed:

I asked “who”? What Lib or Libs want to ban opposition parties?

I am unconcerned that a democracy would enact warpower’ restictions on the press during a war for its survival.

What concerns me is that Zelensky felt this would somehow help his cause. If internal dissent is that much of a problem then inside the Ukraine support for the Russian side must be strong. That bothers me.

Are you denying that libs are attempting/are banning opposition and opposing views?

I am asking you about this post.

Yes…it’s want libs want. Be honest for a change and admit it.

I am waiting to see what happens after the war. If they remain banned, that is a problem.

Honesty isn’t my failing, it is yours.

I personally think an opposition party is essential to a healthy democracy.

I’m thinking . . . if Zelensky is banning the free press that means he is hanging on by a thread and after the war, the Ukraine will have the same free press that Moscow does.

Hanging on by a thread in terms of what.

It’s about national interests, not ideology.

The “democratic west” will gladly ally itself with oppressive totalitarian regimes to protect the interest, or what is considered the “greater good for us.” We allied with numerous brutal regimes during the Cold War solely because they were Anti-Soviet.

Ukraine is not a republic by any stretch of the imagination. But they are diametrically opposed to the Democratic west’s “enemy” the Russian Federation. Supporting their cause without bringing the West’s own forces openly into conflict with the fellow power involved.

As westerners, I wish we would stop deluding ourselves and be honest. We aren’t trying to spread “democracy” or “republican” ideals. We have enemy powers that we have to oppose to continue our part in the “Great Game.”

I would imagine with all the positive attention he has gotten from the media his approval is probably is sky high hard to think they would need ban opposition.

That is kind of my point.
Perhaps the “positive media attention” you speak of is bias and spin for our consumption only. For all we know, the following (hypotheticals) are all possible and might be happening all at once:

  • From the beginning, Putin planned a slow Chechnya-style war in the Ukraine.
  • The war is going exactly the war Putin wanted
  • In country, where people don’t have the Pelosi News Network, Zelensky is massively unpopular, always was, and risks a coup if he does not shut down opposition media.

Most likely none of the above are true. When wars are being fought leaders do all sorts of harmful and unnecessary things to give themselves any tiny (perceived) advantage. (Japanese internment etc…)
