Yes, we have the laws. But today the discussion, beyond the slaver issue, isn’t about laws. Today’s discussion is about fairness, equity and equality.

As my gun rights friends say, ‘there are plenty of laws on the books restricting the illegal use of firearms’. But it doesn’t stop gun violence. It’s similar but not directly on point with that. Laws have to be obeyed. Bias and discrimination are extremely subtle and nuanced. Very difficult to apply laws to.

I did not say we were the earliest to abolish slavery. But from the time the nation was created to the time slavery ended was 80 years…sooner … soonest after their nation began enslaving. As has been pointed out, prior to the American revolution, it was Great Britain and others who enslaved or permitted slavery in the Americas.

Find another comparable nation.

We - as in the colonies that became the US - created slavery in our country.

Correct. The slaves were captured and shipped here by Britain, The Netherlands, Spain, France and Portugal. And they were worked to death under the flags of those countries for over 200 Years. And under the U.S. flag for 80 years.
