The city council of Hamtramck, a predominately Muslim town near Detroit, recently banned the display of the pride flag on city property.
The resolution proposed by Mayor Pro-Tem Muhammad Hassan stated the city would not allow any religious, ethnic, racial, political, or sexual orientation group flags to be flown on the city’s public property.
Out in Los Angeles, there was a large protest at the recent Pride Night for the LA Dodgers. The night included a performance by the “Sisters of Perputual Indulgence”, a group of gay guys who dress as nuns. The protestors included many Hispanics and others who view the show as an example of anti-Catholic and anti-Christian bigotry.
Flags are just ink and cloth. The meaning depends on the context and the viewer.
Some people see the Confederate flag as a symbol of repression. Others see it as historical heritage. The Confederate flag would be banned on city property as well.
Is that a good thing? Or is that bigotry against people who identify as Southerners?
National sovereignty and cultural diversity means that nations are free to make their own decisions.
According to Australian law, deliberately transmitting COVID-19 to another person could result in life in prison. To my knowledge, there has been no protest from the US.
On the other hand, the US has protested and imposed visa restrictions on Uganda for a law with similar penalties for transmitting HIV by gay sex. HIV is at epidemic levels in Uganda and much of Sub-Saharan Africa.
Extreme restrictions on behaviors in the name of protection from COVID are fine with US government. Similar restrictions on behaviors in the name of protection from HIV is a violation of human rights and results in sanctions from the US.
In so far as the insane left has decided to mandate that during the month they randomly named “pride month” people will fly their flag and wear their jerseys no matter what those individuals might deem appropriate…
