Maybe the Afghan government ought to have been involved in the talks that led to the US leaving…where the prisoner releases were discussed?

Perhaps?

It’s how he crafted the drawdown, but it’s not how he enacted it.

And in April he was complaining that Biden was going to take too long and should have been finished in May like he planned to do had he still been President.

You wanna see how ■■■■■■ up A-Stan would have been had we done that?

This was always how it was going to end.

Only surprise was how fast the Taliban retook power.

Prove they were not?

This little birdie and I hung out for a while outside the chow hall once. I’ll bet these birdies never eat so heartily again for the rest of our lives.

The goal was to deny terrorists a base of operations.

The Republican National Committee has removed a page from the 2020 campaign that says “Biden has had a history of pushing for endless wars” while “Trump has continued to take the lead in peace talks as he signed a historic peace agreement with the Taliban in Afghanistan, which would end America’s longest war,” The Washington Post 's David Weigel noted Sunday.

Meanwhile US Defence Secretary Mark Esper was in the Afghan capital Kabul alongside Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani - whose government did not take part in the US-Taliban talks.

Forever?

Clearly. And we wonder why other countries hate us.

No, the goal was to train the afghan government to handle it without us, that clearly failed.

umm so we never discussed it with them? It was just a complete surprise. Your article is just shows they were not involved at some point.

Yeah who knew they wouldn’t want to fight just because we wanted them to. Who could have seen that coming?

They weren’t involved when the main framework was discussed.

Pompeo kept them away because that was what the Taliban wanted.

Just like in Munich.

Trump’s goal in A-Stan was to get out. He didn’t give two figs about the government left behind.

I’m not even saying he was wrong.

Yeah, no, they clearly had great personal motivation to fight, watch what happens to them because they didn’t shortly.

Of course, which is why they surrendered to them even though they outnumbered them. Who knows Afghanis and their motives better than arrogant and clueless Americans? These people have been fighting each other for longer than our country has been in existence, but hey, we know better.

The arrogant and clueless Americans who made this decision had twenty years to figure it out.

We were never going to win this war without staying forever. This was always going to happen.

There’s nothing to figure out except we need to stop going to Middle Eastern countries and think we can change them.

All it does is cost us to spend blood and treasure, for the predictable result that any country we touch will devolve back into chaos once we finally leave.

Well we could have changed them. If we used the same methods we did in the aftermath of WWII to change the Germans and the Japanese.

No we couldn’t have.

They aren’t the Germans or the Japanese.
