This is only beginning unfortunately. It will really get started getting started when they start reporting what the Taliban is doing right now going door to door killing people.

Just saw were women were running out to buy a burka which are three times the price as well mostly sold out.

It will be the global jihadist playground in a short time hosting the worst of the worst terrorist organizations who will threaten “Boom” to the west. People don’t need to mistake who’s coming back into power.

We should have at least given them close air support so they could have retreated in an orderly fashion. I don’t understand why the local air support was taken out in the first place.

THAT is the great failure here.

ANA was never a decent fighting force, and essentially had no passion for their job. (And an uncounted significant portion of their force was sympathetic with the Taliban, if not actual Taliban implants to begin with.)

Our participation was essentially to provide air support and keep the Taliban at bay. It was the shield that ANA could count on for survival.

We removed that with unwarranted immediacy, and that left ANA totally helpless and demoralized. Most of them simply put on civilian clothing and slinked away as a means of self-preservation.

I’ve never been a fan of our long-term presence there. We inserted ourselves in the same endless loop that the Soviets found themselves in during the Reagan era. It was a part of the USSR collapse, and when they left, jihadism rose and we replaced the Soviets in response. Now we’re finally leaving and the Russians (and China?) are licking their chops to get back in there. Jihadism will rise again. Count on it. Both Russia and China are facing jihadism on their own borders already. The logic of it all is beyond my paygrade…

So get-out was overdue. I just think we could have handled the evac better. We could have secured air bases until we had evac’d what we were going to take out. Maybe destroy the military material that we weren’t going to bring home. But now tons of stuff the ANA abandoned, some of it quite sophisticated, are in the Taliban hands.

A lot of this could have been avoided with sustained air support until we were safely out.

My nephew, who has been a B52 pilot and a trainer for most of the post-9/11 era, was telling us about that when he visited years ago.

He also told a humorous story. They dropped shipping crates in the middle of the desert one evening to be used as target practice the next day. When the trainees got in the air, the shipping crates were nowhere to be found. Investigations showed that the drop locations were scarred with pickup-truck tire tracks. Locals had gone out in the middle of the night and cut up the crates for scrap metal.

Well as horrible as the Taliban was and will be again the one area they cracked down was “Boy Play” which shot up again after their ouster. It is part of their culture it’s not a western thing we don’t know by looking a picture who is who and who has done what.

There is a middle point of refugee bad or refugee good they can be both and many time are.

The problem is I don’t expect many on the left to get is when migrations surges like it has on the south of the border and one side treats it like “Nothing to see here” the other side hardens it’s views.

Few would not agree on either side that according to immigration laws the afghans fit the true definition of and asylum seeker and refugee. If the border wasn’t such a partisan issue like it used to be few would object those Afghans coming here for asylum.

Problem is there is 30 million illegals (depending on the source) in the country and we are getting close to 200,000 a month from the southern border since one side ended the remain in Mexico order.

I don’t expect those who are for endless migration to understand this but for those of us who don’t want to be taxed more as well as watching the effect of decay of social cohesion it’s what makes the right say no thanks.

The messaging has changed so much on the left since around 2012 I hardily even want to talk to them about migration as they took a 180 degree turn from previous positions of the Democratic Party.

The Taliban did advance while Trump was drawing down our forces from February of last year onward…they never stopped.

One of the reasons they were so ready to topple the government so quickly.
