Is baseball racist?

Not sure if this has been widely discussed as I don’t follow sports, but apparently there’s no black players represented on either team in the world series:

It’s my impression that the top level black athletes simply don’t care much about baseball anymore?

Black people make up 18% of all pro players, over-represented, not under.

What a sad age to be so consumed by racist virtue-signaling.

Yes in 1991. It’s now at 7.2% in Major League Baseball. Not that I care. Nobody is making it more difficult to make it to the big leagues for any racial reasons in my opinion.

Sloppy click-bait headline writing…

Yordan Alvarez.

This is the first World Series since 1950 there will not be a single U.S.-born Black player on the field.

“Nah, don’t tell me that,’’ Baker says. “That’s terrible for the state of the game. Wow! Terrible. I’m ashamed of the game.

“Quote me. I am ashamed of the game.’’

Just a manager who loves his sport and wants it to be popular with everyone. It’s not that serious.

Whenever Circuit of the Americas rolls around, everyone complains about the fact that Formula1 has no U.S. drivers. “The sport has to do better, super license needs to acknowledge American series more, etc.”

Sports fans jawing because everyone wants everyone playing the sport they like. Lame that the author picked this as a headline.

What’s the percentage of Hispanics? Just curious.

Does baseball need affirmative action?

Much higher at 28% LOL. They might need reverse affirmative action or some such thing.

Hispanico Latinx

Back in the 70s or 80s, the Pirates put an all POC team in the field. It was a cause for amazement and celebration.

Ah, it’s a shrinking minority anyway.

So you are not really black if you aren’t born in the US?

Or are you not a victim?

When people here say “black”, to whom do they refer? Overachieving West African immigrants?

Are “black” Cubans discriminated against in Cuba? Alvarez makes what? $5M a year now? What’s he a victim of. And watch his next contract.

These articles are all click bait. They think of a headline that will cause controversy and boom it works.

Its a ridiculous premise that the powerbrokers behind baseball have a nefarious plan to ensure it stays all white.

Not that I believe the MLB is racist but using “how much someone gets paid” as a reason racism doesn’t exist is rather weak.

MLB doesn’t have a lot of ADOS because they don’t market well to that community. No Ken Griffey or Barry Bonds for those kids to admire.

Plus also access to the sport is not the same for those kids. Every hood I’ve been in has a basketball court or an open field of grass. Rarely a baseball diamond.

It is ridiculous. They just see dollar signs. Just like I do not believe NHL keeps black people out. Black people just don’t like hockey. No access to hockey rinks either. Extremely expensive sport to play.

Yeah? No such thing as economic racism? FDRedline didn’t have a systemic impact? All that talk about generational wealth was… talk?

Good to know.

Well that right there is institutional racism. Equity! Need some good gubmint cheese to build some rinks in the 'hood.

Sneaky… it’s a weak argument for or against racism. It could be the case that racism was a factor in pay. But it’s not necessarily true.

Plenty of ADOS made great money between 1880-1965. Does that mean racism didn’t exist during that period?
