You read it.

“Secretary of the Treasury shall establish, on an annual basis, per-mile user fees for passenger motor vehicles, light trucks, and medium- and heavy-duty trucks.”

Those are not limited to commercial vehicles.

I am pretty sure most of the money will come from commercial vehicles.

Doesn’t make sense for republicans to tax the average joe.

“I’m pretty sure” does not cut it. If its in the law, it’s bound to happen.

But it is an issue that unfortunately can’t be rectified with existing technology. By comparison, running the electric air compressor for cooling the cabin is weirdly far more efficient. There is still some range loss but it’s no where near as severe as running the heater.

And if it’s anything like the pre collision sensors on most cars they’ll work only about 25% of the time.

Even worse than new car prices, this ruins the lives of the poor who depend on these new cars to become affordable used cars about five to ten years down the road. It’s getting to the point that buying a ten year old car is just as bad as buying a new car. Replacing some of these components has gotten outrageous.

Might as well just take out a ten year loan and a 200,000 mile ten year warranty and buy something new even if you can’t afford it. Because some of these vehicles in ten years are going to be complete money pits.

My solution is much simpler and considerably cheaper.

First offense for DUI: same as it is now.
Second offense: Same as now plus they poke out one eye.
Third offense: Poke out the other eye.

What is keeping me from buying an EV is that I live in Brooklyn and have nothing but street parking so there is no where to charge a car if I got it.

What keeps me from buying an EV is the electric heater. You get zero miles per Amp spent heating the cabin, whereas a gas engine heats the cab with waste heat … and does a better job of it in cold climes.

Huh. I didn’t even consider that.
