Friday at Gateway - The Indy Lights hold their first and only practice session…

.
…of the weekend. This is their one chance to set up their cars for their race, so that will necessarily be a compromise for qualifying, later today.

.
Here is the order of speed for the Indy Lights P-1 practice, with times for the TOP FIVE: [R] denotes rookie; time is for 1 lap

.
1 - Benjamin Pedersen, GRG w/HMD Motorsports - time of 00:28.0091s for a speed of 160.662mph

Notable:

  • All 12 cars from the Lights held two test sessions at Gateway a week ago and Benjamin Pedersen TOPPED both of those sessions fairly easily.

  • The outlier here is rookie James Roe in P4. This is likely the first time James has made a TOP FIVE in the 2022 season. Perhaps the Irishman has found his specialty, at last.

  • No current Lights drivers have WON here before but David Malukas WON both races of a double header here in 2021, while he was battling Kyle Kirkwood for the Lights series championship, which Kyle eventually took.

  • Current Lights drivers with previous experience at Gateway are Benjamin Pedersen, Danial Frost, Linus Lundqvist, Sting Ray Robb and Christian Bogle - all veterans of the 2021 double header.
