Racer magazine’s Marshall Pruett speaks to Mike Hull and Dario Franchitti…

.
Mike Hull is Dixon’s race strategist and has been for almost his entire career at Chip Ganassi, which is almost all of his IndyCar career, and Dario Franchitti is Dixon’s great friend and former racing teammate. To this day, Franchitti is one of Ganassi’s driver coaches and gurus, much like the role Rick Mears plays at Team Penske:

Sunday at Sonoma - Formula Car Challenge crown their champions, too…

.
As we mentioned at the start of the thread, the Formula Car Challenge series held two races over the weekend, as well as the IndyCars, the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA and the Historic Trans Am guys. After the two races the Formula Car Challenge series crowned their 2018 season champions in all three classes that run in the series.

First, the class race WINNERS:

Formula Mazda, Race 1 - Bryce Cornet
Formula Mazda, Race 2 - Bryce Cornet

Formula Speed, Race 1 - Courtney Crone
Formula Speed, Race 2 - Bryce Dykstra

Pro Formula Mazda, Race 1 - Patrick O’Neill
Pro Formula Mazda, Race 2 - Patrick O’Neill
.
Congrats to all on those WINS!

.
.
With these results we now have the class Champions for 2018:

  • Formula Mazda - Bill Weaver, 158 points
  • Formula Speed - Courtney Crone, 156 points
  • Pro Formula Mazda - Jay Horak, 156 points
    .
    .

Congrats to all! Now, both Jay Horak and Bill Weaver are too old to participate, but 17-year-old Courtney Crone is now ELIGIBLE to be included as an “at large” candidate in the 2018 Mazda Road to Indy Shoot-out - the chance to WIN a scholarship from Mazda for $200,000 to be applied to a full season of USF2000 in 2019.

.
.
We already know Courtney because she was selected as one of the ten 2018 Team USA Scholarship nominees, earlier this year. Though she didn’t advance to the final six, this Formula Car Challenge Championship will give her another possible pathway to the MRTI Shootout. Courtney started out in Midgets, where she was 2016 Rookie of the Year, and then transitioned to formula cars last year.

Best of luck, Courtney, in getting the call to come to the Shoot-out!
