Pssst…the Senate decided not to do so.
They didn’t buy it.

Again, becomes moot. As of Jan 21st he is no longer a siting president – he can’t be removed from office. Anything they do, needs to be done by Jan 20th when biden is sworn in.

Keeping the man from holding public office in 2024 is hardly moot. Seems like a smart move at this point, honestly. Three years later than it should have been, but still smart.

I believe he will not be in power again…by the will of the American voter.

To decide the voters should not have this decision is an undemocratic action.
The left is riding the wave of Georgia and the mob at the capitol. IMO they are overplaying their hand and will actually wind up providing Trump some sympathy as the victim.

Not moot. He has already stated he intends to run in 2024. Impeachment takes that option off the table and exposes him to criminal liability

It is using the mechanisms the founders established for this type of situation

It takes that option from the American voter. Authoritarianism at its finest. The proper way is to argue what he has done wrong if he runs again, and let the voters decide.

I’m looking at this as a practical application. I agree a conviction now is not likely, which in my opinion renders this a useless effort that will serve only to further divide. However, in a year or so given a reason such as a criminal convicted, lacking a time limit it could be used to avoid another mess.

However, I don’t agree with your idea if it doesn’t happen soon, it won’t for lack of votes.

Wrong. The founders put the mechanism of impeachment into the Constitution for a reason. The founders were authoritarians?

U.S. Senate: 404 Error Page.

Secretary Belknap was impeached after he left office. The Senate voted in a majority to convict but did not reach the 2/3 threshold to convict.

So, ya he was still impeached. As I said, there is precedent to impeach someone after they have left office.

.WW, PSHS

Which has been shown to be ridiculously stupid

They had their chance and failed miserably. Trump will be ok. He isn’t the end all be all for 75% of the voting population

At this point, there is nothing unifying about this move.

Yeah I’m sure the Gravy Seals are coming for me for my reckoning.

Then as soon as he is elected start some new impeachment for something he does the first day.

Again, how can they vote to remove a person who is no longer president.

Impeachment was for removing from office. If he is not in office he cannot be removed.
Founders mechanisms can be misused. If Republicans controlled the Congress and decided to remove Biden from office because they didn’t like him, you would agree.

Meal Team Six may be getting too much though.

Nah, I’m good with the 21st.

Love to watch all this “unifying, not dividing” by the left. /sarc

Again, that’s not all that impeachment accomplishes

Not to his most loyal cult followers. But they obviously aren’t rational thinkers at this point.

His followers are free to drink his koolaid for as long as they wish after he is gone from office.

The rest of us need to prevent him from ever having the nuclear codes again.
