And something like 85 or 90% of the industrialized world still runs on oil…and it will be decades before all these supposedly clean renewables can make a dent on our energy needs…
Meanwhile we’ve got 260 billion barrels of oil floating under our feet and I forget the number but decades and decades worth of natural gas. And we are actively forfeiting that position of energy superiority and stability in favor of all these terribly inadequate and not very environmentally friendly alternatives based on the lies of the green new deal crowd.
Not to mention centuries worth of coal, millennia worth of nuclear.
If our descendants haven’t figured out how to fuel and feed themselves without fossil fuels by the time those centuries have passed… ■■■■ 'EM!

I worked for EPA in Region 10 which covers Idaho. I know how they work and what they can and cannot do and what they did and did not do in regards to Superfund site in Idaho and the states within Region 10.
It’s not all about Biden ya know.

Propping up would have involved big fanfare about the return of domestic mining after 40 years.
Or lots of flapping about Biden’s New Deal creating an unprecedented business-friendly environment to extend the mine’s life, and encouraging others to produce minerals domestically for the sake of national security.
Maybe even a few horn toots about industrial policy and environmental policy coexisting–despite exaggerated conservative refrains that greenies would allow no such thing.

he IRA provide for both onshore and offshore lease sales in specific ways. For onshore, the IRA requires the Department of the Interior (DOI) to host a lease sale within four months of issuing new onshore wind and/or solar Rights of Way.
For offshore, the IRA requires DOI to:
Award the high bidders their leases from Gulf of Mexico Lease Sale 257 held last November
Conduct lease sales in Alaska’s Cook Inlet (Sale 258) by the end of 2022 and in the Gulf of Mexico (Sales 259 and 261) by 2023.

Further, the IRA requires that at least one offshore oil and gas lease sale that offers at least 60 million acres be held within the year prior to a new offshore wind sale.
I am sure companies who have been told we are phasing out fossil fuels will be eager to develop those leases.

I know this is more than the OP intended to deal with but what the hell are we doing???
Someday we’ll all be able to achieve Warp in cars that run on hydrogen and recycled cardboard or something… but until then…
Maybe we should try using what we’ve got…
