An MS-13 gang member was charged Thursday with the murder of a teenager on Long Island, NY after the body was discovered nearly a year after the attack, reports Fox News.
Carlos Benitez-Hernandez, 21, was officially arraigned Thursday on second-degree murder charges related to the death of the unidentified teen.
Insiders close to the case said the youth was “horrifically and barbarically” murdered.
“Nassau County Police Department Det. Lt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said in a Thursday news conference that authorities believe the motive for the killing is the ‘gang’s displeasure’ with the teen’s actions,” writes Fox News.
“It’s more gang’s displeasure with his actions within the group, or it was something that they felt disrespectful to them or a threat to them,” Fitzpatrick said.
Hernandez was already in federal custody over a pre-existing immigration issue at the time of his arraignment. The suspect pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
