She’s about 20 miles outside Victoria.
Way the hell down there. About 10hrs almost straight south of me.
I like that part of the state in Dec/Jan/Feb but I hate the humidity the rest of the year. I’m a creation of the desert where we average about 10% precip a year and usually get most of it in two or three rains or blizzards.
You can get a 3" rain up on the Llano and three hours later the humidity is back in the 30’s.
It is a Huge state.
It’s about a 15 or 16 hour drive for me. Sometimes i fly and she picks me up at the airport.
She lives in Tn most of the summer. She has some condos up here.
I would too. Between the heat and humidity S. TX is hell in the summer.
Aug/September down there you generally have equal temp/humidity, both over 95.
We’re at 107 right now but the humidity is only 10% so with their current 87 and 95% humidity it’s actually nicer here.
Ya they are very interesting and super nice I got lost the first night there trying to find my apartment on their hellish subway system decided to just get a cheap hotel until the morning but after the 13 hour flight and riding in the subways lost for two hours panic plus being tired kicked in and I left one of my bags on the subway which had a lot of stuff in it.
I figured it was just gone for good which is what would happened at home, but the front desk at the hotel called the police for me and to my surprise someone turned it in to them I couldn’t believe it. I was able to go in and get it the next day and told them they rocked.
Hey I’m with you, it can be very intimidating being alone in a country where you don’t speak the language like a local and are clueless about the culture.
You can take “classes” before you go but they will never prepare you for what you find yourself in.
My secret? / Just go out and get drunk with the locals for 10 Days to two weeks.
You’ll finish with one hell of a hangover but the loss of inhibitions allows you to learn very quickly because you’re not afraid of making an ass of yourself.
I had a great time I have been back twice since, great people I wouldn’t change a thing about their culture except the whaling industry and the insane expensive cabs
The first girl I was ever straight up head’s up head over heels for was a half Japanese girl from Clovis, NM Her dad was retired AF and had spent just about his whole career in Japan for his overseas postings.
To this day anytime I’m out that way She, her Brother and I try to get together at least long enough to grab a hamburger and catch up.
Great people.
