That’s not for me to say. The fact is, it’s not for me to say there should be a statute of limitations on that at all. I was simply saying that the concept is not an “odd thought.”
That depends on how you ask the question. Support for legal immigrants and those who have been granted sanctuary and/or work status to have a pathway to citizenship has always been strong.
Most Americans are in favor of major immigration reform that would increase the number of legal immigrants and streamline the process to reduce waiting time. But most Americans are also very much in favor of stemming the flow of illegal immigration and deporting those already here who are straining our social welfare systems and putting pressure on the legal system. This is a two-step problem … 1. secure the border and clear the decks and 2. reform the immigration system to bring in more skilled and semi-skilled professionals and laborers. Clearly, the country is currently incapable of producing the number of workers it requires in so many fields. But we cannot just flood the country with whomever shows up at the border and hope that some of them will fit our needs. That’s just stupid.
“Roughly one-third of U.S. adults (32%) say all immigrants living in the country illegally should be deported, while 16% say none should be deported. About half (51%) say at least some should face deportation.”
