The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency installed barriers outside their Washington, DC headquarters this week in an attempt to protect federal workers from activists surrounding the building.
According to the Washington Examiner, the department placed physical barriers at entrances and exits Wednesday to protect “employees and visitors” attempting to illegally enter the premises.
“Several dozen activists had intended to enter the building to protest Trump administration deportation and border detention policies, but arrived to find temporary fencing and a line of officers blocking their way,” writes the Examiner.
The protests come just days after a string of Democratic candidates vowed to “abolish” the federal agency; claiming the department was “tearing at the fabric” of the United States by enforcing existing immigration laws.
