Conservative Never Trumpers might believe they are some kind of patriotic American - above the political fray. Country before party - the saying goes.
In reality, they are getting played by DEMs. The topic of this thread is a prime example. It is likely there are more than a handful of Never Trump conservatives amongst the signatories. DEMs point to those conservatives as evidence that there is strong distaste amongst Trump supporters, when that isn’t the case at all. It is simply the conservative Never Trumpers carrying water for the DEMs.
