No it isn’t. Look at Michigan and Wisconsin for the GOP, New York for the Dems. The elite stay in power because they draw the lines. Voters are helpless in states with extreme gerrymandering.

In Michigan, GOP is using our petition laws to repeal the law the Governor is using to rule the state with emergency powers. If the petition process didn’t exist, they would be helpless.

These are checks against the powerful.

A constitution is a framework that lays out the rules on how a government will work. Laws are where government actions occur, and I don’t know what state you live in, but there are laws passed all the time.

My state has reserved the power of governance to the people. There are three ways to petition the government, referendum, ballot proposals, and constitutional amendments.

The Alabama Constitution was ratified in 1901. The convention attendees were white supremacist’s and the Constitution’s purpose was to completely exclude black people and poor whites from having any substantive political power.

A major part of this was centralizing all power in Montgomery. Alabama has ZERO home rule options. Just to enact, increase or decrease a county or municipal tax requires a statewide Constitutional Amendment. Certain changes in county or municipal statutes require a statewide Constitutional Amendment.

Essentially, even if blacks control a municipality or county, they must still come crawling to the white State Legislature and the white majority statewide population to actually DO anything.

It is a racist Constitution.

It is a pathetic Constitution.

It simply needs to be burned.
