In my circle of friends, calling oneself a socialist is normal, but there’s a bit of rebellion to it, as if their declaration has “. . . and I don’t care what you think!” as an implied ending. The true rebel or two I know identifies as anarcho-something, with the “something” changing week by week.

They are tremendous at parties, but they never BYOB. I’m tempted to point this out, but I think it will lead to a political discussion in which I am at the disadvantage, and I don’t like being wrong about bringing booze to parties.
