How long has it been since a reasonable Democrat had a leadership position?

It is shocking to see how far we have come from Kennedy’s policy statement a few months before he was assassinated:

"Above all, while defending our own vital interests, nuclear powers must avert those confrontations which bring an adversary to a choice of either a humiliating retreat or a nuclear war. To adopt that kind of course in the nuclear age would be evidence only of the bankruptcy of our policy–or of a collective death-wish for the world.

To secure these ends, America’s weapons are nonprovocative, carefully controlled, designed to deter, and capable of selective use. Our military forces are committed to peace and disciplined in self-restraint. Our diplomats are instructed to avoid unnecessary irritants and purely rhetorical hostility." --John F. Kennedy, June 1963

If a leading Democrat made a statement like this today, he/she/they would be immediately pummeled as a Kremlin operative in terms that would make Senator McCarthy blush. If that seems far-fetched, consider what has happened to Tulsi Gabbard.

Has the military-industrial-intelligence complex bought out the Democratic Party?

Kennedy’s biggest democratic mistake was cutting the top tax rates thereby inventing “Reaganomics” 20 years before President Reagan

Wasn’t the top rate over 90%? Why would that be a mistake?

democrats can’t control you if they let you keep what you earn

According to today’s R party…there are no reasonable Democrats.

The R party believes we are all enemies of the people, and promote 9 year olds getting sex change operations. I would not support Dems either, if i believed all the BS the RW spews.

It was cut from 93% to 70%. And during that time frame, we had a growing, consistent economy, with no huge economic crashes.

Reagan slashed it to 25%, and cut regs on the financial industry. That began an economic roller coaster , just as it did in the early 1920’s. And we had our own Great Recession due to the same reasons. Pubs crash the economy, and Dems clean up the mess…every time.

FunFact:Since January 1989, the U.S. has added 51.5 million jobs, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows. During Democratic administrations, the nation has added nearly 50 million of those jobs. By contrast, Republican presidents have overseen the creation of some 1.5 million jobs over that period, according to BLS data.

Why was that in your opinion?

New Deal policies were firmly in place. We regulated the financial industry, created SS and put high taxes on the super wealthy. Unions were strong, with 30% or so in a union.
In the 60’s Dems passed Medicare and Medicaid, which helped many people, and helped stabilize the economy.

Pubs goal has been to tear down those programs, and have done a pretty good job wounding them, and still promise to shutt hem down AKA Privatize them. They have almost succeeded with Medicare, with the Advantage option taking over…

clean up the mess… and who balanced the budget? Clinton? not without Kasich and Gingrich…

Not over looked at all…
Thanks for reminding me…the GI bill was an excellent way for returning soldier to get a good education/training which resulted in a lot of economic activity. Europe rebuilding itself, with the financial help of the USA was a factor in our growth…we had less competition. But we also had a very hungry appetite to spend after 4 years of war

The Democrat of today, doesn’t even closely resemble the Democrat of yesterday. If you drew a line right down the middle, the Dems close to the center are actually closer to being an R than compared to how far left the Dems of today have moved. That’s why the Tulsi Gabbards and Robert Kennedy Jr.s are siding with the right.

Do you agree that Kennedy’s statement in the OP would be a reasonable approach for US foreign policy?

Would a person with these views be allowed to have position of power in today’s Democratic Party?

Yes, Democrats have moved strongly to the left on many social issues. At the same time, they have become extremely hawkish in foreign policy, especially with Russia.

Kennedy’s statement on foreign policy seems close to the views of Tulsi Gabard and RFK jr. The rhetoric used against Gabard in the OP sounds a like that used in the flier that appeared in Dallas at the time of the Kennedy assassination.

Given the two recent assassination attempts targeting Trump, what are the implications for the safety of Trump and his proposed appointees?

Has the Democratic Party become little more than the political arm of the deep state?
