To answer the OP, the main effect that I see from the resistance to Trump movement has been to damage the neo-liberals. “Down with Trump” has energized the AOC/Bernie supporters in a way that “Hillary is no good” would never have done.

If McConnell had been less of a brick wall (or if he loses re-election) this might have resulted in benefit for the country. But as for results in governance, it hasn’t done much.

The US is more divided than it has been since the civil war and the gov’t has ground to a hear halt over “Russia Gate”, and “Quid Pro Quo”, and the US is now ripe for attacks abroad and from within because when we are divided we are weakest and when we are weakest we become a very attractive target.
