Right, but I guess I should reiterate that I was discussing a technological upper limit.
‘Life’ didn’t outrun carrying capacity - or whatever turn of phrase captures relative equilibrium and niche balance over time.
Technique did. We are non-estrus breeders and over a hundred years time, unevenly but quite thoroughly, we broke our own equilibrium. It was not because how we reproduce. We’ve always been free breeders… It wasn’t because we have good endosomatic memory. It wasn’t because hubris. It wasn’t even because of decent, but slow-stable exosomatic technique sharing.
Techniques now produce cascades of multiplying and intensifying feedback loops because ‘we’ figured out how to escape our population equilibrium, and mostly on the wavefront of a single, liberating fuel source.
