People were leaving before the crime spikes.
NYC isn’t the state of New York. No matter how much we like to pretend
People are leaving the state not just the city.
You should fact check yourself to see if that old canard is valid still.
In particular, between 2011 and 2021, the following felonies have not declined.
Grand Larceny of Motor Vehicles
Felony Assault
Grand Larceny
Now they are not greatly increased but they are increased.
And others that are not greater than the 2011 levels are increasing.
That’s just a few that I checked. So before you continue with that narrative, maybe a little homework would be in order?
This was my source.

And then there is the unreported crime….
Thanks for doing the research. The number on the bottom for seven felonies tells us that there less felonies than it was 7 8 9 and 10 years ago.
But yeah there are def certain crimes are worse certain years as compared to others.
Abd if you look at the “non seven major felonies” abd eliminate the dangerous drug felonies, the remaining total of that category has increased. Since 2011, the drug laws in ny have changed to decriminalize many previous criminal offense. It’s not a fair comparison.
If you take out numbers and add other numbers the sum will change.
Which still doesn’t take away from the fact that what’s happening in the city is being purposefully exaggerated to make it seem like the 90s are back. Murders are down this year so far as compared to last year and yet….

I’ll add NY to Georgia and Arizona as states I’m not going to visit because they are too dangerous.

You are right … State leadership has been as bad as that in NYC.

I used to go to NYC multiple times a year. A ton when I was much younger. I’ve been there once since the pandemic. Before they required vaccines. The city doesn’t interest me anymore.
Do they still require vaccines to enter places? Or am I thinking of somewhere else?

NYC has basically lifted all restrictions.

I go to the City at least 3 days a week. I am yet to see any of this “danger” people that don’t live there are so worried about.

I lived here in the 90’s… it was worse then. Heck… the crime rate was worse in the early 2000’s.
Here is an interesting article about how Mayor Adams stoked fear of crime to get elected… basically admonishing the local news channels to report it more and now that they are he is suffering politically because of it… because they are focusing on every assault… every mugging… everything and it is giving the perception that things are out of control when they are part of an uptick in what has been a steady drop since the 90’s,

What I do see as a problem is the city just cannot seem to get the homeless crises under control. Some of the subway stations are much much worse with homeless people camping out in them and that has been getting steadily worse for the past ten years. I think that the covid crises here completely broke the system that was inadequate to begin with to help these people.

Homelessness is one of the biggest problems in the City. It isn’t new but is probably as bad as it has ever been.
Here’s the latest stats for 10/22:
Overall index crime in New York City increased in October 2022, by 5.9% compared with October 2021 (10,930 v. 10,324) driven largely by a 19.3% increase in grand larceny auto (1,244 v. 1,043), a 9.6% increase in grand larceny (4,564 v. 4,163), and a 8.9% increase (1,388 v. 1,274) in burglary.
I’m sure Alvin Bragg will do all he can to keep the trend moving upward.
He is not the da of New York City. No such person exists.
What are you talking about?
He is not the da of NYC no such person exists.
He is the da of Manhattan.

Like that’s an important distinction.

It actually is. There are five separate DA’s

When we are talking about crime in NYC we aren’t talking about the burbs.
