House passes a bipartisan continuing resolution under suspension of the rules

Looks like the Democrats have saved McCarthy from his own caucus.

335 to 91.

Mike Quigley of Illinois was the lone Democrat no vote.

It was always going to be bipartisan once the Freedom Caucus’s drama party ended anyhow.

I’m persuaded to the no blank check for Ukraine side and there wasn’t extra funding in the bill.

Congress should start NOW with hammering out a real budget. Now they have 45 days.

THAT is where the budget wrangling belongs. When it was time to raise the debt ceiling, and GOP wanted to insert cuts at that point, opponents said the debate belongs when the actual budget gets hammered out. Ditto when they tried to insert stuff in the Continuing Bill.

We need to turn the deficit barge around. It’s not going to get fixed all in one shot, but in the next 45 days there needs to be a start. Opponents of efforts to make cuts shouldn’t have grounds to complain that people are trying to do that.

And even a ploy to pull an illegal fire alarm didn’t stop this.

From the looks of things, Democrats did not put much effort into “stopping” this, with one no vote.

McCarthy might acquire a taste for bipartisanship after getting carried like this.

Looks bad for Dems no matter how you spin it.

That is the story along with a Halt on Ukraine money.

I was rooting for a shutdown.

Genuine question - In what way does this look bad for dems?

Do you think McCarthys leadership is at risk now?

The fire alarm.

Why would he do that?

Insurrection!!!

No.

I still think he is being under rated.

He is juggling and not dropping.

Oh that. That was ■■■■■■■ stupid. Needs to be admonished for that. Not sure it was part of a bigger ploy on the part of democrats leadership. Just a lone idiot.

Should be some type of censure or even nuisance charge for that type of behavior. Esepcially as I am sure the fire brigade had to come out.

To McCarthy’s credit he worked out a way to out maneuver the freedom caucus. Though with his slim majority I wonder if that makes him vulnerable to attacks from the likes of Matt Gaetz.

But only with the help of Democrats.

Probably not. Gaetz, et al can throw bombs, but he can still get things done with the Democrats.

@Safiel,

Can you confirm or deny.

I seem to remember information from last January that now a single member of the majority party can call for a vote to vacate the Speaker position. No question.

But I seem to remember this was a one-time shot. That if he was challenged and survived the motion could not be repeated during the current session of Congress. Does that sound true?

WW

He said he thought it would open the door.

Play dumb.

Congressman?

Wow.

I have yet to see a fire alarm that isn’t bright red and has fire alarm written on it.

They even have Braille markings.
