To me, this tells me that Dems know they cannot beat mainstream Republicans so they are propping up the weaker ones, and hoping they can win.

■■■■■■■■■■■ strategy but I expect nothing less from them.

On the plus side, I appreciate your tacit admission that the MAGA candidates are weaker than the Dem candidate or their mainstream Rep counterpart.

Which is, if you think about it, the whole point. :slightly_smiling_face:

Ok, so to that end -

Which of the following works better to ensure a MAGA loss ?

  1. MAGA is defeated in the primary
  2. MAGA wins the primary

I’m going with #2 because 40% > 0%

Right, that is what I have been saying this whole time.

We help MAGA win the primary, so we can then crush MAGA in the general¹. Of course, this may mean helping MAGA beat the sane Republucan. Oh well.

Obviously, if the Dem can’t win regardless, it is better to support the sane Rep.

¹it is all predicated on this win. If MAGA ends up winning in the general, this is a catastrophic blunder, and nobody tries this for a coupla cycles.

And that’s all good and fine and may be a good shrewd strategy, despite its moral misgivings, it just happens to be the opposite of “purge GOP of MAGA”.

Dems want to run against MAGA because they think it helps their chances ergo they’re helping MAGA. If every Republican in the country woke up tomorrow and decided to be anti-MAGA, Dems would go into mourning.

Well, when we say purge, we only mean to “show that they are unelectable” by beating them. So again, you are saying MAGA losers are actually some new species of winner.

So tell me: how is beating MAGA in elections counter productive?

Well sure, but also not the situation, nor will it be the situation.

Surely you aren’t hinging your whole position on this absurd hypothetical?

I think they look at it as the Maga won’t get elected in general but the other one will or might. So not only do they get rid of Maga when they lose in general they gain a seat due to a terrible candidate. I think it could be an effective strategy. Low chance of back firing in my opinion

The winning is crucial. If this ever does backfire, metaphorical heads will roll.

I supported trump in 2016 because I thought he would fight back against the neocon wing and govern as a moderate. What trump did to the deficit was horrible. His reckless spending made Obama look like a fiscal conservative.

Brilliant leadership isn’t increasing the deficit by trillions

oh joy, another lib faking being a conservative. we haven’t seen that before

This tells me that Dems know that mainstream Republicans will kick their ass, so they found a legal way to cheat. Pathetic bunch of loosers

Sure, sure.

Thing is, mainstream R’s are pretty thin on the ground these days.

It’s not counter productive. If they win their primary, does their chance of winning a congressional seat increase or decrease ?

I thought we agreed that it increased by 40 %, roughly.

So knowing that, isn’t what Dems are doing in effect boosting MAGA electoral chances ?

It also tells me that Dems don’t really think that MAGA is dangerous to the country. Not really.

If they did, there’s no way they’d take the chance of only leaving a Democrat candidate in the general to stop them; they’d want to squash them as early as possible.

Theoretically. I am pretty confident that no Dem candidates are trying this strategy thinking that it might backfire and that they will lose.

BUT, as I said, that’s the rub. If one of these does go bad, there will be hell to pay.

Well, based on this, I can only conclude that you are willfully misunderstanding the strategy, and further discussion is pointless.

But I do appreciate the exchange: it’s nice to have an actual conversation here once in a while.

So thanks. :+1:

Guess if you cannot win on your own merits and ideas, rig it to won.

Hey, at least they are doing it openly this time.

This WILL backfire, maybe not this cycle, but definitely in the next 1 or 2.

Reading all the arrogant bull ■■■■ from these people is both maddening and laughable.

They’ve gotten away for two long with silencing those who disagree with them with insults…

Racist- climate denier - basket of deplorables - smelly Walmart shoppers…

I think more and more Americans are sick of a bunch of leftists endlessly accusing the rest of us while left wing policies are such a universal failure.

“Theoretically”.

It actually is quite practical that they are boosting the MAGA chances.

Do you think that MAGA is bad for America ?

If your answer to above question is “yes”, would you act in any way that would increase MAGA’s chance of being present and influential in the government of the United States of America ?

Republicans can’t.
