None of these assumptions are absurd.

They are based on actual data.

The mortality rate for children is estimated to be about .1%.

Even if you want to drop the infection rate to 10% (because there is some evidence the infection rate in kids may be half what it is for older people, you are still at 5,700 children dead.

Does that make the number more palatable to you?

And as for protecting the vulnerable, who’s going to pay for it? Schools are reeling from the hit the economy took and now they’re being asked to take on extra costs.

For once don’t be Baghdad Bob and answer these questions.

Such a simple-minded post.

Between the two of them, which one is the convincer and the convincee? Which one is the expert.

I’m not “blaming” Fauci for anything. He did exactly what he was trained to do and would do it again.

It is a bureaucratic system failure, not a Fauci failure. As evidenced by the trips to the beauty shop “cause I’m on TV!” to not wearing the mask when on TV, to marching. Both parties.

Now you’ll say “My side did it better! Trump!” Based on what? TV? We saw how the reporters did it.

The people aren’t as stupid as everybody thinks they are.

No “side” did it better.

The only comment I am making is you attributed resistance to mask wearing to Fauci and I believe the evidence is clear it was not Fauci because the reasons for not wearing a mask are not because people doubt the science.

It sure seemed like you believed Fauci was at fault for Trump’s intransigence on not wearing a mask. And a JayJay pointed out, Trump supporters will look to Trump for the “trvth” on the coronavirus.

The problem in your post is “estimated.”

It is the will and right of the people to live life with a semblance of risk.

The relative risk here is quite low compared to the alternative.

Weigh both options.

:chart_with_upwards_trend:

Then it wasn’t “TRUMP!” now was it?

You aren’t listening. Yes it is because they “doubt” the science, Fauci’s “science”. He lost credibility and therefore the bureaucracy did. He is the expert face. You have to be really, really good to get 51% of 350 million people to do something that makes them uncomfortable all day long everyday. And you don’t get do overs.

Of course they’re doubting the “science”. The “science” told them not to worry about masks then and wear it or die now.

This type of thinking isn’t for everyone. It upsets accepted ways of thinking and faith in high modernism. I’ve learned to accept it, I deal with it every day.

The fundamental attribution error is believing people make decisions based on “logic” - they don’t. “Any reasonable man could see…”

Reason has nothing to do with it.

The only person Trump supporters could have been convinced to wear face masks by was President Trump. It is clear by now that President Trump has no faith to lead by his haters, but he still has overwhelming support by his base. He is greatly responsible for how his supporters have perceived this pandemic and the political nature of the debate about wearing masks. If at any point during the last few months, President Trump took to arms the call to wear masks for the benefit of our society and economy, his supporters would have listened regardless of what Fauci was saying.

To you.

So he needed to be convinced first.

And California would still be a mess.

You think the cities are full of Trump supporters?

Agreed. I would imagine it would have gone a long way if Trump had donned a mask and told his followers to do the same.

But when Trump won’t do that, won’t say masks are mandatory at his rallies and even removed distancing stickers at the venue then THAT is sending a message that strongly contradicts any message Fauci is sending out.

Trump supporters will look to Trump for direction.

Some people have different agendas. I don’t think Trump’s top items on his agenda includes the safety and protection of US citizens.

Yes. Plenty of Trump supporters in the cities.

Of course it’s estimated because it hasn’t happened yet. But the estimates are based on the data we have.

And what “alternative” are you comparing it to where you are saying that the risk of 5,700-11,400 student deaths are more acceptable?

Then he needed to be convinced. Why are you putting the blame on Trump supporters? You think Trump supporters are the ones congregating in bars?

Even if I give you Tulsa, how are you going to explain California? Houston, Dallas and San Antonio?

Is Miami Trump country?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: Stop dude.

Neither did Fauci’s in April.

Facui has explained why he said no masks originally.

And now, he is saying masks.

Why is trump still resisting masks?

You are operating under the assumption that Trump CAN be convinced. When he has different motives, he cannot be convinced.

Young people do stupid things, regardless of political affiliation. I’m dealing with teens at home. :hushed:

It’s now july.

Things change. We learn more.

Why no masks now?

I live in Houston. Far more Trump supporters in my area of town than Biden supporters.

And you don’t need a majority to spread a virus.
